Jess Lainis

Director & Tennis Australia Master Club Professional

Jess’s tennis journey began in primary school, where a PE teacher noticed her natural coordination and encouraged her to pick up a racquet. After playing at her local club for a few years without the right guidance, she stepped away from the sport — only to return at age 14 with a renewed drive. Despite starting later than most competitive athletes, she quickly rose through junior tournaments, earned an Australian junior ranking and moved to a tennis-specific school to pursue her passion.

Her career accelerated at 18 when she met her long-term coach, Sean, who transformed her game and mindset. Jess trained professionally for over seven years, achieving a top ranking of 88 in Australia, competing in state grade and high-level pennant, and fulfilling her dream of travelling overseas to play on the professional circuit.

At 25, Jess shifted her focus to coaching full-time. She discovered a deep love for athlete development — especially the technical, physical, tactical and mental elements that help players grow. She spent several years as Director of Coaching at 5ETS (Vermont South TC) before co-founding We Are Tennis in 2019.

After taking time to begin her family, Jess is now leading  We Are Tennis Fountain Gate with a clear vision: to build one of the strongest, most connected tennis coaching communities in Melbourne’s south-east.

Beyond tennis, Jess is a qualified Personal Trainer, Multiple Brain Integration Techniques Coach (mBIT) and long-term wellness advocate.

She loves the gym, meditation, and creating healthy, balanced pathways for people of all ages.

Fun fact: Jess has completed multiple ten-day silent meditation retreats — her go-to for clarity, grounding and inner strength.
